Give It up For Teens (G.I.F.T.)

Dayna founded Give It up For Teens (G.I.F.T.) to benefit teens who are survivors of domestic violence. Merit College Advisors helped her brainstorm about project ideas for months and then guided her as she organized each phase of her project. She worked in part with Walnut Avenue Women’s Center (WAWC), which helps just over 3,000 families a year. Although the center receives many teddy bears and other donations for children, they lack the things that teenagers really need and appreciate. By calling local businesses and corporations, Dayna collected over $5800 in gift cards/certificates and gifts. She even recruited student volunteers to help make phone calls, drop in at mall stores, and assemble mailers. Dayna distributed gift cards for clothing, coffee, pizza, college advisory, and baskets of gifts to teens across Santa Cruz County.
